Both monitors use LG Display's 4th-generation Primary RGB Tandem WOLED panel at 1440p and 540Hz, with a 1280×720 720Hz mode that reviewers found soft. The biggest visible difference is the coating. The PG27AQWP-W uses ASUS's glossy TrueBlack finish, which TFTCentral found gave the deepest blacks of any OLED coating it had tested in a lit room, with mirror-like reflections. The 27GX790B-B uses a standard matte anti-glare coating that diffuses reflections but looks slightly grainier.
Connections
The ASUS has DisplayPort 2.1 at UHBR20, so compatible GPUs can run the full spec without compression, but no USB-C. The LG runs DisplayPort 2.1 at UHBR13.5, which still needs DSC for the full spec, and adds USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode.
Brightness evidence
TFTCentral measured about 381 nits SDR with Uniform Brightness on the ASUS and roughly 1,800 nits for 1% HDR highlights at maximum brightness. For the LG, Tom's Guide measured 249 nits SDR and 561 nits at a 10% HDR window. These come from different outlets and methods, so they are not directly comparable.
Warranty
ASUS offers 3 years including burn-in in the US. LG's US OLED coverage is 2 years including burn-in, according to LG's 2023 statement.
Verdict
In a controlled room, the ASUS is the better monitor and carries the longer warranty. If you cannot control reflections, the LG's matte finish is the practical choice.
